Overview

The Product Input Template helps standardize material and product entries in the metals and recycling industry. Follow this guide to properly complete each field.

Class Codes

Only three class codes are allowed by default, unless you create new ones:

• NF - Non Ferrous
• F - Ferrous
• MI - Miscellaneous

Important: Class codes must be in capital letters.

Category Codes

Categories are specific to each Class type. Below are the Non-Ferrous (NF) categories examples:

Non-Ferrous Categories:

• AL: Aluminum
• ALWI: Aluminum Wire
• CU: Bare Copper
• BATT: Batteries
• BR: Brass
• CATY: Catalytic Converters
• CUWI: Copper Wire
• PB: Lead
• MI: Misc
• MXCU: Mixed Copper
• MXME: Mixed Metals
• RA: Rads (Reports as MXME)

Note: F and MI classes have different category lists. Always use the correct category code for your class type.

Item Code Requirements

Your item code must follow these rules:

• Maximum 5 characters
• No spaces allowed
• No special characters
• Numbers are allowed
• Must be unique
• Cannot be blank

Examples:

• AL123
• CU45
• ST100

Description Field

The description field has these requirements:

• Can contain any characters
• Spaces and special characters are allowed
• No length restriction
• Must be clear and descriptive
• Cannot be blank

Examples:

• #1 & #2 HMS MIX
• Copper Wire 10 AWG
• Aluminum Sheet (Clean)

Units of MeasurePurchasing Units

Standard units include:

• NT (Net Tons)
• LBS (Pounds)

Sales Units

• Optional field
• Usually matches purchasing units
• Can be left blank if same as purchasing unit

Common IssuesClass Code Issues

• Use only NF, F, or MI, or any class that has been created
• Must be in capital letters
• No other variations allowed

Item Code Issues

• Check length (max 5 characters)
• Remove any spaces or special characters
• Verify code is unique
• Use only letters and numbers
